Your Venus sign is the sign of the zodiac Venus was passing through at the moment you were born. In astrology, Venus governs what you love and how you love: your taste, your style, what you find beautiful, what you reach for in romance, what you want to give and receive in affection. It's also a money-and-pleasure placement, the part of the chart that knows what feels good.

Enter your birth date (and optionally a city for the timezone). We compute Venus's actual ecliptic longitude from a geocentric ephemeris, same source professional astrologers use. Your Venus sign appears in the personal-planets section of the chart below.

Why Venus is the "love and aesthetics" planet

Venus is the second planet from the Sun and orbits roughly every 225 days, so it never strays more than about 48° from the Sun in your chart. That means your Venus sign is always either the same as your Sun sign or within two signs of it. Astrologically, Venus's job is to draw things in: people, money, comfort, beauty. Where Mars (action, drive) is the asking, Venus is the receiving.

A Taurus Venus loves slowly, deeply, sensuously, and gravitates toward quality and texture. A Sagittarius Venus loves freely, hates being fenced in, and finds beauty in distance and discovery. An Aquarius Venus is drawn to the unconventional and needs friendship as the foundation of romance. None of these are right or wrong; they're different shapes the same planetary energy takes.

Key takeaway

Your Venus sign is the zodiac sign Venus was in at your birth. It governs what you love, your aesthetic, and how you give and receive affection. Date alone is enough on most dates; Venus changes sign every 3-5 weeks.

Examples

  1. Born September 5, 1985 in Cleveland, Ohio

    • Birth date 1985-09-05
    • Birth time (optional)
    • Birth location (optional) Cleveland, Ohio, United States

Date alone is enough on most days, Venus moves about one degree per day, well inside any sign's 30° width. This birth gives a confident Venus reading regardless of the time of day, since September 5, 1985 is well clear of any boundary day for Venus.

  2. Born July 14, 1992 in Tokyo, Japan

    • Birth date 1992-07-14
    • Birth time (optional) 10:00
    • Birth location (optional) Tokyo, Japan

July 1992 was an active month for Venus's progression through Cancer and Leo. With a precise time and the Tokyo timezone (JST, UTC+9), the calculator handles the conversion to UTC automatically before looking up Venus's position, so the result is the same it would be from any astrologer using the same ephemeris.

Frequently asked questions

How close to my Sun sign is my Venus sign always?

Venus is always within about 48° of the Sun, so your Venus is at most two signs away from your Sun, and is often in the same sign or an adjacent one. This is why "Sun + Venus" is a particularly tight pair to look at: if you're a Leo Sun, your Venus is in Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, or Libra, never Aquarius. The constraint is purely orbital, Venus orbits inside Earth's orbit, so from Earth it never appears far from the Sun in the sky.

Does my Venus sign predict who I'll be attracted to?

Astrologers vary on this. The most common reading is that Venus describes what you love about loving, your aesthetics, your rituals of affection, what makes a relationship feel like home, more than a checklist for partners. A Pisces Venus loves the merging-and-dissolving feeling of romance regardless of who's across the table. Mars (the desire-and-pursuit planet) tends to describe what you find attractive more directly. Treat Venus as the "what does love taste like" placement, not a profile filter.

I have a different Venus sign than what one website said. Why?

Two main reasons. First, timezone errors: older calculators often skip historical daylight-saving rule changes or use a present-day offset. We use the IANA timezone database for historically accurate offsets. Second, boundary days: Venus changes sign every 3 to 5 weeks, and on the day of the change a morning birth and an evening birth can give different results. For boundary dates, providing your birth time pins the answer exactly. If you don't know your time, the calculator picks noon local, which is the right call most of the time but can flip on a boundary day.

What does Venus retrograde mean and is it in my chart?

Venus goes retrograde (appears to move backward against the stars, from Earth's vantage point) for about 40 days every 18 months. If you were born during a Venus retrograde, your natal Venus is retrograde, which astrologers often interpret as a quieter or more inwardly directed Venus, more selective in love, slower to commit, more prone to revisiting old relationships. This calculator identifies the sign of your Venus, which is the headline placement; retrograde status is a secondary modifier and is shown as a small label in the full birth chart.
